The class of 2007 has already begun drifting into society, its college graduates embarking on careers as diverse as the economy.
We found some recent graduates who’ve chosen distinct career paths. Who knows—they just might have big enough feet to fill some noteworthy shoes.
THE FUTURE AL GORE
RYAN BERNI
THE OFFICE OF JAMES CARVILLE
LSU political science major
Where you can find him: All over the United States.
What he’ll be doing: Traveling with political icon James Carville and assisting with his research, communications and office management.
Why politics: “Love it or hate it, politics have a huge impact on the future of every American, especially young people. Too often, people tend to think that their vote won’t count or that their voice isn’t heard, but that’s really not the case.”
THE FUTURE GEORGE MARSHALL
CEDRICK WRIGHT
U. S. COAST GUARD
Southern University computer science major
Where you can find him: Wherever he’s needed.
What he’ll be doing: Working as a naval flight officer navigating aircraft and protecting lives.
Why he wants to help: “My dad was in the military, so it runs in the family.”
THE FUTURE MELINDA GATES
ALISON MARTIN
CITY YEAR ORGANIZATION
LSU natural resources ecology and management major
Where you’ll find her: Baton Rouge
What she’ll be doing: Providing relief and recovery assistance, participating in service days to raise money for literacy, and tutoring elementary and middle school children.
Why kids: “I want to gain valuable experience working with and teaching children. I hope to get a master’s degree in environmental education. With this degree I hope to get kids off the couch and outside, and possibly spark interests in science.”
THE FUTURE JAMES R. FLYNN (LOOK HIM UP!)
SPENCER WOOD
KAPLAN TEST PREP AND ADMISSIONS
LSU English and pre-dental studies major
Where you will find him: Baton Rouge
What he’ll be doing: Teaching a Kaplan prep course to students for the Dental Admission Test and preparing them for dental school.
Why education: “For a lot of people, they have all the desire in the world to go to dental school, but for some their test-taking ability or test anxiety is a big problem.”
THE FUTURE MATT GROENING
JONNIE BATDORF
WALT DISNEY WORLD
LSU general studies major
Where you will find him: Orlando, Fla.
What he’ll be doing: Using his leadership skills in an organization renowned for guest and customer service.
Why tourism: “There are people who save for years just to be able to take their family to Walt Disney World for the first time. In some cases, a trip may serve as a final wish to a terminally ill child. As a cast member, I am able to make the dreams of all of these people come true.”
