Re-enter the dragon

“As things settled we found how much we missed the music,” says Chris Maxwell, owner of the Red Dragon Listening Room. The hideaway music venue on Government Street closed its doors last year, ending a run of intimate 60-person sit-down acoustic shows. During the hiatus, Maxwell dealt with his father’s health issues, his son’s relocation to Spain and his own move to a new Baton Rouge home. But he couldn’t stay away.

Maxwell has lined up a new slate of performances for the venue, a nonprofit venture where all proceeds go to the performers. Maxwell is working on booking someone in May, but he has already lined up Steve Young, a singer-songwriter who penned The Eagles’ 1980 hit “Seven Bridges Road,” to perform June 5.
