High-end sneakers are the new baseball cards, says Sie James, a self-proclaimed sneakerhead and owner of Pivot Foot, a new store specializing in uber-styles for the feet.
“I eat, live and breathe this,” he says. He and business partner Jason Carl tapped into Baton Rouge’s avid sneaker following when they opened their tennis shoe boutique in October.
“It’s something I always wanted to do. There are a lot of sneakerheads in Baton Rouge, and we’re the only boutique like this,” James said. Located in Towne Center next to Anytime Fitness, Pivot Foot caters to customers who routinely shell out $800 a month just for kicks.
The store carries sneakers that are “in stealth mode,” those you can’t find in the mall or in catalogs, or even order from the manufacturer. Prices match the mall’s—with the most expensive pair going for around $200. Except Pivot Foot’s shoes are crafted of finer materials, such as Coach leathers.
To stay a step ahead of the trends, James hunts through blogs and courts the reps from major manufacturers to find the newest releases, both domestic and overseas. A sneakerhead might have hundreds of shoes, James says, with 10 or so in rotation at a time. “Once something becomes mainstream, we don’t want to wear it anymore,” he says.
