Here: Musician, Baton Rouge High grad

There: Audio engineer in Portland, Ore.

When and why did you leave B.R.? I left in 1998 to go to the best college I could (California Institute of Technology), and to experience more of the world.

What do you miss about the city? The super-friendly people and the food. Oregon food is pretty bland in comparison. Crawfish po-boys at George’s in particular. Also people in the Northwest are a little more reserved and not as likely to just say, “Hey, how ya’ll doing?”

What don’t you miss about it? The traffic or the politics. I am able to ride my bike all over the place in Portland, and the people are very liberal and accepting for the most part.

What does your new city have that you wish B.R. had? Public transportation and a more active electorate. I think people tend to just accept that politicians in Louisiana are crooked as a fact of life. It doesn’t have to be that way.

What’s essential when you come back to visit? Friday catfish and my mamma’s chili.

When were you in town last and what did you do while here? I came home for a wedding for a high school friend and partied down.
