The East Baton Rouge Parish Library, partnered with COX Communications, is sponsoring “Looking at Jazz,” an ambitious series of concerts, films and lectures to reacquaint us with the pleasures of jazz at various venues around the city.

“I’m hoping the performances and listening sessions will encourage the public to explore jazz and find music or artists that speak to them, too,” says project director Emilie Smart. The series is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities through the American Library Association, Renew Media and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

The series will run for several months, including monthly concerts at Chelsea’s, beginning May 23 with the Louis Ford Traditional Jazz Trio. The series also will feature films and lectures at the Bluebonnet Regional Branch Library. Lookatjazz.org.
