Dumpster driving

Dumpsters for a string of apartment complexes along Burbank Drive have taken up residence right along the road. Marguerite Acosta, manager of The Embassy apartment complex, says there is “nowhere else for them to go in order for the trucks to get to the trash.” If the eyesores were moved any more toward the road, drivers would be swerving to prevent dumpster-benders.

Lindsay Black, manager of El Cid apartment complex, says this is why she hides her dumpsters behind the building. “It’s dangerous,” she says. “These kids come rushing around these curves at 60 mph, and they are going to smash right into one of them.”

But Acosta says they serve as barricades for cars that run off the road, protecting her residents and their cars in the parking lot. At least they have the safety of someone in mind.
