Miriam Ruzicka is a recent graduate of Episcopal High School and will attend LSU.
For a high school student in Baton Rouge, it is difficult to find something new or interesting to do.
I have lived here my entire life, and the only thing there is to do in this city is eat, shop, or maybe go to a movie.
I do not understand why city officials don’t promote more music that appeals to teens. For years, we have ridden on New Orleans’ coat tails. Bands go to the Big Easy all the time. Baton Rouge seems to figure that if they’re going there, why try to get them to come here?
On the rare occasions that a decent band happens to fall in Baton Rouge’s lap, the turnout is outstanding. If music came to Baton Rouge every weekend, the revenue for the city would be colossal.
For many teenagers, the alternative to boredom is trouble. If there were more for teenagers to get involved in or to do on weekends and late nights, they would keep themselves out of trouble.
Whenever there are more areas for you to be involved in, it helps to cultivate your sense of identity. Once we have the capitol of our state leading the way to culturing our youth, maybe someday we could pull Louisiana out of its place among the lowest-scoring states.
