The voice heard around the world

If you happen to buy the newest Canon EOS Rebel XTi camera, the soothing female voice you’ll hear on the virtual demo is that of Melinda Walsh of Baton Rouge.

Walsh is a professional voice artist with plenty of commercials and even feature films to her credit. You might recognize her as the face and voice of USAgencies from 1995 to 2000. Her work for the new camera is perhaps the most unique project yet.

In the ultra competitive world of electronics, the whole project was hush-hush, and Walsh was sworn to secrecy about the specs until Aug. 24 when Canon made its worldwide launch.

“I love what I do,” she says. “It’s just fun. Of course, it comes with lots of hard work, but it’s still amazing to me that I get paid for talking. It almost sounds illegal.”
