After an eight-month hiatus, lunch at the new Chelsea’s under the Perkins Road overpass is served. And one of Baton Rouge’s best-kept lunch secrets is back in action. Chelsea’s updates classic Creole and comfort foods with gourmet flourishes and unique surprises, mirroring the impressionist artwork and rock ’n’ roll music that punctuate the casual bar and grill atmosphere. Smoky mojo chicken, served rich and creamy on a salad or a po’boy, ranks among the best barbecue chicken in town. Standard fried shrimp and catfish po’boys are joined by adventurous fried calamari and parmesan cheese, or the grilled cheese on focaccia loaf. Lunch is easy, with most dishes less than $10. Try the tangy sesame spinach salad, or the fork-tender pork loin au jus po’boy. And you can’t go wrong with the appetizer of pita and hummus, which is smooth and flavorful, and it doesn’t make you feel like your head’s been dipped in olive oil while you suck on a lemon.
