It used to take nearly 100 miles and almost two hours in the car to enjoy the popular summer pastime of tubing, but now Baton Rouge residents have another option when it comes to taking a lazy river ride with friends.

Tiki Tubing in Denham Springs takes tubers down the scenic Amite River and is a closer alternative to the Bogue Chitto River in Bogalusa, which used to be the nearest tubing destination.

Owners John and Cathy Fore opened Tiki in April 2005 and offer a basic tubing package starting at $15, but for $20 you can cruise the river in style in one of “Bubba’s yachts.” They also offer rentals on kayaks, ice chest floats and volleyball nets.

Tiki Tubing will continue to offer its three-and-a-half and five-and-a-half hour trips through September 10 when the season ends. For more information log onto tikitubing.com.
