Cooling off with a good white

Summer weather calls for a cool, light wine that’s good with food. Envision early evening picnics (weather permitting), or screen-porch dining with fresh salads (did I mention tomato and buffalo mozzarella?), roasted chicken, pasta, crusty bread—the works. Whole Foods wine guru Doug Quirk recommends a quirky, yet delightful Three Thieves Pinot Grigio in the “tetra pack” (that means box). “The Pinot Grigio is a crystal clear, pale straw color with aromas of citrus, apple and pear—a good light, crisp wine with a perfect balance of sweet and tart that’s great with any kind of food,” Quirk says. This wine is not only delicious and food friendly, it’s reasonably priced at around $15. All that and it comes in a box. Who knew?
