[Video art by Teddy Dibble comes to Baton Rouge Gallery]
Wednesday, March 1, 2006
Video art is becoming the preferred medium in today’s art world—the 2004 Whitney Biennial hosted more video artists than photographers—and The Baton Rouge Gallery invites us into that world by screening works by nationally respected video artist Teddy Dibble.
Dibble’s inspiration lies in the programming we try hard to tune out—short, hilarious punch line pieces that tap into TV advertising’s allure. “The shows are filler, I could care less about them. But the commercials! Some of the better humor is in them,” Dibble says.
Media critic Robin Reidy notes, “Teddy Dibble follows the visual comic tradition of Sid Cesar, whose on-camera face has the incredible elasticity of putty.” The Art Institute of Chicago Video Data Bank explains, “If television is truly the opiate of the masses, then Teddy Dibble is a living room crack dealer.” Don’t miss this chance to witness some cutting edge, not to mention, funny, art in the comfort of our own city.
Screenings are at the Baton Rouge Gallery in City Park on March 18 at 8 p.m. (More Event Details)
