What's up: My Space

Monday, July 31, 2006

1. White leather chair. It’s a thrift store find restored by a good friend. It brightens, it shines, it’s white!

2. Abe Lincoln painting, gold frame. This was painted by a former graduate student at LSU. It emancipates our style.

3. Orange lamps. I found these at Aladdin’s Lamp on Government Street right after I had spent three weeks teaching in Mexico last summer. We painted the room orange first, to match the lamps, then changed it to red for more sumptuousness. These lamps and the red walls make me feel like I am in the living room of the beloved grandmother of a Mexican pro-wrestler. I like that.

4. Baby pink rug and matching pink ceiling. I got the pink shag Flokati rug from Overstock.com. We love the lush quirkiness of Mexican Baroque. These two things also add coziness and warmth to a room we relax in.

5. Red sardine can paper bowl. From South Africa. A wedding gift from David’s sister, who bought it at a cooperative international goods store in Chicago. It adds beauty, meaning and a great place to put chocolates.
