Bound Stems, Rahim and We Landed on the Moon! – Indie

Wednesday, December 6

North Gate Tavern

In the sea of indie rock vying for my attention Chicago’s Bound Stems is one of the standout up-and-coming bands, possessing a mix of spindly, four-alarm guitars and the hushed shout of the Pixies and Modest Mouse in their vocals. Eclectic Frenchkiss Records recording artist Rahim and local faves We Landed on the Moon! are in support.

Trio de Janerio featuring Ray Moore - Jazz

Thursday, December 7

Manship Theatre

Saxophonist Ray Moore is mounting a revolution, mixing New Orleans jazz with Brazilian rhythms with his groups Brasiliance and RiOrleans. He brings his trio to the Manship Theatre Studio to test how well the jewelry box on the river fares when the temperature rises. >>More

30 Seconds to Mars, Kill Hannah and Plain White T’s - Rock

Thursday, December 7

Texas Club

Never underestimate the allure of a heartthrob. While Jordan Catalano may still plaster the locker door of many a heart, actor Jared Leto and his band 30 Seconds to Mars are continuing to make great press and have lasted long enough to almost be completely exempt from vanity project status. Chicago’s long running electro-rock true believers Kill Hannah are in support. >>More

Zenbilly, The Mighty Orq and Phillip Hawke - Rock

Friday, December 8

North Gate Tavern

Put on your dancing boots and twist yourself into oblivion to Baton Rouge’s hardest working rockabilly outfit Zenbilly. Get reacquainted with glorious rock n roll to Houston’s The Mighty Orq or with Lafayette’s Philip Hawke. C’mon, it’s good for you.

Centro-Matic - Rock

Monday, December 11

Chelsea’s Café

Will Johnson of Centro-Matic is one of those names you should know, but probably don’t. When a number of great bands start to water down their sound as they age, Centro-Matic gets sharper and harder and rougher. Touring behind their feedback-thick album Fort Recovery, they light a match under the backside of indie rock, creating a huge beast equal in its tenderness and ragged glory. It’s one of the best albums to come out this year. Don’t miss this one. >>More
