Sir George Martin and son Giles created this remix/mashup of the Beatles’ catalog to soundtrack the Cirque du Soleil Las Vegas show of the same name. Many stalwarts will deem this heresy, but it bears remembering that Martin the Elder was largely responsible for the orchestral sound of their most beloved albums. Still, the keyword here is “Vegas.” The show itself was 100 million dollars in the making, and the old analog recordings needed remastering anyway to pop in the gargantuan theatre built just for the show. Purists should keep their shirts on, as there is a minimal of tinkering on most of the tracks, mostly augmenting one with samples of another. The only track that gets the real mashup treatment is “Drive My Car” which gets its DVA recombinant with “The Word” and the horns from “Savoy Truffle” far from being either a travesty or a deconstruction, More of a novelty, this disc is about as threatening to their body of work as that Elvis remix of a couple years ago was to his.
