The Varsity goes out back

The new gravel parking lot behind The Varsity on State Street will be used for large-scale concerts beginning Friday, April 7 with a free show by costumed cover band Bag of Donuts. The event includes a beer garden of new brews from The Chimes and smoked bratwurst. Varsity talent buyer Chris Lundgren will use the 3,000-capacity lot to attract well-known acts to Baton Rouge. “Summer package shows such as the Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects and Hawthorne Heights concert could never play the Baton Rouge market because the city lacks the proper venue,” Lundgren says. “With the launch of the Backyard, we hope to provide that venue and opportunity for the city.”
