Spring is in the air, and Baton Rouge’s Tin Roof is celebrating with a new beer.

The Capital City brewery released its latest spring seasonal, Yonder Hefe, late last week and gave participants of the Zapp’s International Beer Festival an early taste last weekend. The new beer is—as the name suggests—a Hefeweizen, or German-style wheat beer. Tap room manager Charles Pierce describes the beer as “crisp and very light.”

Tin Roof co-owner William McGehee says the recipe comes from head brewer Alex Daigrepont. The can features the slogan, “This ain’t ya momma’s Hefeweizen.”

“It has a hint of clove and banana flavors, but not too much sweetness you might find in other Hefeweizens,” McGehee says.

The brewery is in the midst of rolling out the beer locally, and the new beer should be available at stores sometime this week. Patrons can expect to find cans at Calandro’s, Matherne’s and Whole Foods. At press time, Yonder Hefe was available on draft at Tin Roof’s tap room, The Pelican House, The Chimes’ Highland Road location and The Londoner.
