Tiger Deaux-nuts plans opening on Government Street

After months of delays and attempts to move his Tiger Deaux-nuts into the former pipe and tobacco shop Hemingway’s in the Goodwood Shopping Center, Jeff Herman will open his donut business in the former location of the short-lived Rocco’s Po-Boys and Grill at 5162 Government St. The opportunity to take Tiger Deaux-nuts to Government Street came three weeks ago, Herman says.

“It’s too good of an opportunity to pass up,” he says. “I’ve been cleaning up the new location and giving the walls a fresh coat of paint, and will try and get reopened as soon as possible.”

Herman doesn’t have a set date, but is hoping to open before December. He says he’ll make an announcement on the business’ Facebook page, then will plan a bigger, grand opening for next year.

With the new location comes tons of space. Herman now has more than 2,500 square feet, more than triple what he had at the old Hemingway’s. All that space has Herman thinking about some creative menu items.

“The size and the kitchen space gives me the ability to be more creative and open things up,” he says. “I’m brainstorming menu ideas. I’m not sure how it’s going to work yet, but there might be sandwiches with donuts as buns in the future.”

Herman first announced he was moving his Jones Creek business in March this year. In September, he told 225 Dine that numerous factors he didn’t anticipate were delaying the opening of Tiger Deaux-nuts in Mid City. Now, he says he couldn’t be more excited.

“I’m excited this all fell into place,” he says. “I’m glad to be a part of the revitalization on Government Street. There’s a cool scene going on there. I just want my customers to know that maple bacon king cakes will be back the first of the year.”
