New incarnation of Sammy’s Grill in the works
A sports-themed cafe featuring a 20-foot theater screen and a live music stage will be included in The Oasis, which developer Chris Shaheen has been working on since 2012. The restaurant will be called Sammy’s Southern Bistro.
“It will be in a smaller building than Sammy’s Grill and the menu is going to be scaled down with some trendier food categories being brought in such as small plates and wraps,” Sammy Nagem says in a prepared statement. “But you’ll definitely know it’s affiliated with Sammy’s.”
Shaheen and Nagem, owner of Sammy’s Grill—which has four restaurants in the Capital Region—will share ownership in the mixed-use development, while Nagem will solely own the restaurant within.

Cupcake Allie opens on Nicholson Drive next week, in Mid City in October or November
Allie Offner and Jay Bookman will open their second Cupcake Allie location next week at 5251 Nicholson Drive, in the space formerly occupied by the Frosted cupcake business. The pair also has plans for a new Mid City location.
“My family and I, we live in Mid City, so we’re definitely invested in the area and excited about being a part of the redevelopment going on there,” Offner told Daily Report.

The Mid City location will feature seating for up to 35 and an expanded menu with breakfast in the mornings and wine in the evenings. It is slated to open in October or November at 3809 Government St.
“It’s a much larger space than we have here on Perkins, which will allow us to have a much larger selection,” Offner says. “It’s going to be a little more upscale, but still comfortable.”
The additional locations will complement the original Cupcake Allie at 3753 Perkins Road. Offner and Bookman also operate a food truck and distribute cupcakes to several area grocery and retail stores. Offner says they recently inked a deal with Rouses Supermarkets to have her cupcakes sold at Rouses stores statewide by the end of the year. Read the full story.
