Fast Break: Unique quiches at Beauregard Bistro

Beauregard Gallery and Bistro is quaint, quick and quiet—the perfect lunchtime hideaway for anyone working in Mid City or downtown.

The cafe is nestled tightly in between the houses of Beauregard Town, so it’s easy to miss. But once inside, it’s an entirely different atmosphere.

Beauregard Gallery and Bistro is a small, family-owned restaurant specializing in fast but appetizing lunches. The cafe offers a variety of specialty salads such as shrimp remoulade, bread bowl soups such as the loaded baked potato, and sandwiches.

But what caught my eye was the long list of quiches. Crawfish, mushroom and bacon, shrimp and feta, cheeseburger—you name it, Beauregard Bistro has it.

I went for the Crab Florentine quiche, and I was stunned as soon as it came out. It was steaming hot and cheesy, the edges were crispy and the crust was light and flaky.

Beauregard Bistro successfully tackled the biggest problem presented by making quiche: making sure the center of the filling cooks as quickly as the outer edges, because no one wants a mouthful of soggy quiche.

Art from local artists and LSU students line the walls of the bistro. Patrons can choose to sit at tables or relax in lounge chairs near the windows.

The restaurant’s homey atmosphere combined with novel lunch options makes it a must-try for Baton Rougeans.

Beauregard Gallery and Bistro is at 715 Europe St. and is open 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Monday-Friday.

The bistro also offers catering and private events.
