Follow Jay Ducote’s roadtrip to the Beard House

On Monday, Jay Ducote started his trip from Baton Rouge to New York City to cook at the famed James Beard House. All week, he’s been sharing Facebook Live videos with followers of 225‘s Facebook page.

On Monday and Tuesday, he shared videos from on the road to the Smoky Mountains and from Alfie’s in Washington, D.C. He arrived in New York City today, and tomorrow he’ll broadcast as he prepares to cook at the James Beard House. Later in the week, he’ll go live as he explores the Big Apple and attends the James Beard Foundation’s Chefs & Champagne event.

Art Melt brings art (and food) to downtown this weekend

The 13th annual Art Melt returns to the Capitol Park Museum this weekend. On Friday, July 22, will be a preview party with hors d’oeuvres, cocktails and entertainment 7-10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.

On Saturday, July 23, the juried art exhibit will be free to the public. The museum gallery will open at 5 p.m. and an outdoor festival will include cultural and musical performances, an arts marketplace, a children’s section and food booths from local vendors.

Former LSU quarterback’s mom to debut candy brand

Ruth Flynn, the mother of former LSU Tigers quarterback Matt Flynn, is debuting her own brand of candy. The white chocolate roasted pecan candy will be called Mama Roos, a name her grandchildren gave her.

With the help of the LSU AgCenter Food Incubator, Flynn has cooked up large batches of the candy and plans to sell it at Calvin’s Bocage Market.

Tallulah to host Tin Roof beer dinner

Tallulah Crafted Food and Wine Bar is hosting a four-course dinner featuring food from Executive Chef Drue Vitter and Tin Roof beer pairings on Tuesday, July 26, at 6:30 p.m.

Downtown French bistro closes

Le Cordon Rouge, the French bistro downtown that opened early this spring, has closed after only four months of operation.

Rhonda Crosswhite, the owner of the Third Street restaurant, says a dispute with the landlord over problems with the building forced her to closed down.

Galatoire’s hosting wine dinner tonight

Galatoire’s Bistro will host a wine dinner featuring Justin Vineyards and Winery, from Paso Robles, California tonight at 7 p.m.

Dinner guests will enjoy culinary creations by Executive Chef Kelley McCann paired with Justin wine. Hors d’oeuvres will be served at 7 p.m., and dinner will begin at 7:30 p.m. See the menu here.
