Dine Roundup: The Rum House up next on TV, Beausoleil beer dinner and more local food news


The Rum House next to be featured on Food Network’s ‘Burgers, Brew & ‘Que’

Food Network’s Michael Symon has now made stops at three Baton Rouge restaurants for his hit show Burgers, Brew & ‘Que.

After filming at City Pork Brasserie & Bar and Bistro Byronz recently, Symon made his way to The Rum House Caribbean Taqueria to sample the restaurant’s Key lime pie and Caribbean-inspired brisket sandwich.

The episode featuring the Rum House, titled “Tastes of the Tropics,” will air Friday, Feb. 19, at 9:30 p.m.


Beausoleil hosts beer dinner tonight, Jan. 27

Beausoleil Restaurant and Bar will host a Bayou Teche beer dinner Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m. The night’s menu will feature different craft beers from local brewery Bayou Teche and five mouthwatering courses. See the full menu below:

Course one: Abre de Vie (applewood-smoked ale aged in Buffalo Trace barrels) with a red ale beer cheese soup and crispy crab

Course two: Courir de Mardi Gras (Biere de Mars) with pickled shrimp tacos, cabbage and roasted corn slaw, queso fresco and candied peanuts

Course three: Boucanee (smoked wheat ale) with smoked scallops, gobi lasuni, pomegranate seeds and masala

Course four: Cocodrie (Belgian triple/IPA) with sautéed veal liver, bacon and onions, tasso and cane espagnole

Course five: Miel Sauvage (honey ale aged 100 days in Jack Daniels barrels) with a pork belly waffle, lavender and blackberry compote and caramelized honey gastrique

Sample more than 100 beers at upcoming Baton Rouge on Tap

Baton Rouge on Tap, the Capital City’s newest beer festival, will bring more than 100 beers from more than 50 nationwide breweries to the River Center Saturday, Feb. 13.

The event is part of the national America on Tap festivals, which are held around the United States and showcase craft beers from national breweries. Baton Rouge on Tap will feature local breweries such as Abita, Gnarly Barley and Tin Roof, but beers from national breweries such as Not Your Fathers, Angry Orchard and Samuel Adams will also be available.

General admission tickets are $45 and include three hours of sampling, a take-home souvenir cup and live music entertainment. VIP tickets are $55 and include an extra hour of sampling (4-5 p.m.), a souvenir cup, live entertainment and a food voucher.

The festival opens to general admission ticketholders at 5 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. Purchase tickets here.
