Magpie Cafe hosts July Supper Social Thursday

Magpie Cafe is hosting its July Supper Social this Thursday, July 28, 6:30-9 p.m. 

The menu:
First course: Housemade ciabatta with sweet orange butter, plum hibiscus butter and mushroom herb butter
Second course: Chilled cucumber soup
Third course: Stuffed squash blossom with sauce picante
Fourth course: Poached pear and pork atop puff pastry
Fifth course: Classic plum clafoutis

Grand Cinema to get makeover, expansion

The Grand Cinema on George O’Neal Road is scheduled to undergo a top-to-bottom makeover and expansion with plans to reopen near Thanksgiving.

The renovations will include a bar, kitchen, laser tag arena, expanded arcade, bowling lanes and two auditoriums added to the eight-auditorium cinema.

Luckett Farms opens enrollment for fall CSA

Fall season enrollment for Luckett Farms‘ CSA, or Community Supported Agriculture, is now open. The season will last 12 weeks, beginning Sept. 12.

According to Luckett Farms, the CSA program is a way for community members to invest their money in fresh, local seasonal vegetables through a subscription by purchasing a share of the season’s harvest. The program allows members to develop a direct relationship with the farmer that grows their food.

Zaxby’s purchases lot in the Greens at Millerville

Zaxby’s, a Georgia-based restaurant specializing in chicken fingers and wings, has purchased a nearly 1-acre parcel in the Greens at Millerville for $1 million.

The lot sits at 13770 Millerville Greens Blvd. and, weather permitting, construction is expected to take about three to four months at a cost of about $900,000.

Barcadia hosts Capital City’s Finest event

Capital City’s Finest, a free, family-friendly event is this Sunday, July 31, 2-6 p.m., at Barcadia Baton Rouge. The restaurant’s specialty Wing Fest menu and $1-$2 domestics will be available during the event.

The event will feature Hula-Hoop contests throughout the day to win gift cards, the chance for attendees to purchase tickets to Beer Fest and its VIP reception and more. A donation will be made in support of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
