Description: Randell Henry’s paintings navigate between figuration and abstraction. While distinctive figurative elements can come into view, the paintings are often expressions of pure form and color; stemming from influences as varied as early African cave paintings and German Expressionism. As the artist has stated, improvisation plays a large part in the way he approaches the work, and Henry’s journeys through linear and organic form “can express feelings or emotions in a way that is similar to music.”
David Horton’s work has always contained imagery with a rich narrative thread that draws from a vast pool of cultural history. In the past, symbols connected to his experiences living in Spain have proven both personal and universal. Currently in the throes of a stylistic transformation, Horton’s latest body of work contains new elements that at times diverge and at others merge into a single image. The central theme for this collection of figurative oil paintings is toys and games.
