If you ask George Bell about his trumpet playing, the local musician will laugh and say, “I’ve been at it awhile.” Bell has played for 46 years. While he holds down a day job as administrator for Baton Rouge General’s Mid City campus, Bell still finds the time to play a few special shows around town. This Saturday, he’ll join jazz greats such as Herman Jackson and Wess Anderson for An Evening of Holiday Jazz at 8 p.m. at Manship Theatre. Tickets are $35 regular admission and $15 for students. Captain Green closes out the year at Chelsea’s
If you’re in the mood for jazzy jam music, Captain Green will be cooking up just that at Chelsea’s Café Friday at 10:30 p.m. The performance is the Baton Rouge band’s third annual Christmas Carnival and includes a food drive for the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank. Those who donate will get free gumbo and red beans and rice. On the music side, Captain Green will play a few tracks from its upcoming record, Protect Each Other Together, and more.
