Inside the Science Cafe at Chelsea’s

The lights go down at Chelsea’s Café. It’s 5 p.m. and the last Tuesday of the month. But this is no musical performance. No, tonight’s entertainment is a discussion on the fusion of science, technology and the arts—another entry in LSU’s popular community series, Science Café.

These informal talks started about two years ago at the local venue. The topics can range from scientific analysis of coastal erosion to screenwriting for popular television shows.

Science Café is one way of making the university’s work more accessible to the community, says Matthew Lee, the senior association vice president in LSU’s Office of Research and Economic Development.

“We want to be able to provide what we have to offer to the community,” Lee says. “It’s a way that people with various interests can get a glimpse of what it is we do here, outside of the athletic programs.” lsu.edu
