Family picks: Enjoy stories and art at LSU Museum of Art

If the children are still enjoying the winter break and looking for something to do, the LSU Museum of Art is hosting a few events you won’t want to miss. First up is the Friday, Jan. 2, Stories in Art at 10:30 a.m. The program begins with a reading of Erza Jack Keats’ Caldecott Medal winner, The Snowy Day, followed by an art workshop where participants will create winter city scenes. On Sunday, the museum hosts its free First Sunday Family Fun Artbox at 1 p.m. After touring Nari Ward’s exhibit “Rooted Communities,” participants will create their own personal abstract pieces, using materials inspired by Ward’s sculptures. LASM’s Viewing & Doing Art opens its ‘Hope Chest’
Head to the Louisiana Art & Science Museum Saturday, Jan. 3, for the monthly program, Viewing & Doing Art. In this edition of the program, children ages 6-12 and their families can explore art together. After a visit at the museum’s exhibits, participants can decorate their own chest to store hopes and dreams for the months ahead. The event starts at 10:30 a.m. Get more information.

Also this week: The New Year’s Eve celebration Red Stick Revelry kicks off at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, with Red Stick Rising at North Boulevard Town Square.
