Family picks: Don’t miss ZooLights, Ice Skating at the River Center

If you have some free time this week and want to get out of the house, there are a couple of Capital City traditions that are perfect for families. Baton Rouge Zoo’s ZooLights runs through Dec. 30. The mile-long trail features more than 50 illuminated displays of animals and holiday traditions. The zoo will be closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. However, there will be ornament decorating Friday, Dec. 26, and Saturday, Dec. 27, during the event. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. Get more information. The River Center’s Ice Skating on the River is also still running. Tickets are $12 per person, and 75-minute sessions will be held through Jan. 4. There are no sessions Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Get more information.

Get colorful with Kids’ Lab
It’s the last Kids’ Labs of the year this weekend at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum. This edition of the event will explore “The Rainbow Connection,” and participants can see the magic behind a colorful chemical process. Each participant will also receive a backpack with surprises inside. Sessions take place Saturday, Dec. 27, at 10:15 a.m., noon and 2 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 28, at 1:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. Get more information.
