Family Picks: Brec-A-Boo, ‘Curious George’

Looking to have some fun with the family this Halloween? Have no fear. This weekend has tons of events that are perfect if you’re looking to scare up a good time.

Get all dressed up in your favorite Halloween costume as Gus Young Park hosts BREC-A-Boo Friday 6 p.m.-8 p.m. The free event includes carnival games, ghostly visitors, a haunted house and more. The event will also feature a costume contest. For more information, call 926-5848 or visit brec.org.

The Greater Baton Rouge State Fair continues this weekend at the fairgrounds at 16072 Airline Highway. The fair is open 5 p.m.-10 p.m. Wednesday-Friday and noon-10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Gate admission is $5. Ride wristbands are $25. Group rates and discounts are available. This week’s highlights include an appearance by magician Tim Spinosa, racing pigs, an exotic petting zoo and performances from Voodoo Gumbo on Saturday and the Rusty Yates Band on Sunday. Baton Rouge Zoo will honor local veterans Saturday during its Veteran Appreciation Day. The event includes free admission for veterans as well as themed shows at the Safari Amphitheater at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Military vehicles will also be on site. An inquisitive, lovable little monkey visits the Capital City. Manship Theatre hosts a performance of Curious George Sunday. The fun starts with a Kids Club event at 12:30 p.m. that includes snacks, activities and backstage tours. The musical starts at 2 p.m. This time around, George will celebrate All-You-Can-Eat Meatball Day with his friend Chef Pisghetti in Rome. Tickets are $15.
