How does your garden grow, and better yet, how should it taste?

Find out at the annual Garden Fest at Burden when LSU AgCenter researchers share advice and patrons get to sample fresh produce and Louisiana-made food products. Learn about how to grow a perfect tomato, then taste one, along with fresh watermelons, peppers, fruit crops and more. Visit booths with local Louisiana products made by AgCenter Food Incubator culinary entrepreneurs. Visitors are also invited to bring their best backyard tomatoes and enter them in the biggest and heaviest tomato contests.

The event also features live music and hayride tours through the complex’s stunning gardens.

The Louisiana Culinary Institute (LCI) and the Louisiana Egg Commission will prepare and serve omelets, and Mason’s Grill will offer samples of its signature Bloody Marys. LCI and the East Baton Rouge Parish extension office will offer bites of dishes that have been prepared with Burden-grown vegetables and local food products.

Finally, if your tomato plants aren’t producing, or your squash is bearing no fruit, bring a specimen to the plant clinic for expert diagnosis from AgCenter researchers.
