Don’t miss the Jambalaya Festival May 22-24

Down in Gonzales, they got the jambalaya! Photo courtesy of the Jambalaya Festival.

While some will spend Memorial Day Weekend relaxing poolside with mojitos, others will head to Gonzales for three days of zydeco music and all-you-can-eat jambalaya.

The 48th annual Jambalaya Festival kicks off Friday, May 22, with a cooking contest 10 a.m.-5 p.m. The event also features an outdoor carnival and live music inside and outside the Civic Center at 219 S. Irma Ave.

Start Saturday morning with a 5K or one-mile Fun Run at 8 a.m. and refuel during the second cooking contest until 1:30 p.m. The Champ of Champs and Mini-Pot contests follow, and then you can dance the rest of the day away while more local bands perform.

The Jambalaya World Champion will be announced Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
