Arts picks: Hear Pages Matam’s brand of poetry

Pages Matam, the 2014 National Poetry Slam Champion, visits Baton Rouge this week. On Tuesday, the poet performs at Eclectic Truth’s weekly Poetry Slam and Open Mic Night at the Firehouse Gallery inside the Arts Council building. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. The show begins at 8 p.m. Matam’s work has been featured on The Huffington Post and The Washington Post. Over the past two years, he has released two collections, including this year’s The Heart of a Comet. Admission is $7. Get more information.

Heads up: Don’t miss the Jewish Film Festival later this month
The ninth annual Baton Rouge Jewish Film Festival kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 14, at Manship Theatre. This year’s lineup includes the documentaries Hitler’s Children and Quality Balls as well as feature films such as The Wonders and Under the Same Sun. Tickets are now available for each screening.
