Arts Picks: ‘Don Giovanni,’ Prospect.3 screening

LSU Opera takes on Mozart’s classic this week. Performances of Don Giovanni start Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Shaver Theatre on LSU’s campus. Additional performances run Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Tickets are $30. Directed by Dugg McDonough and conducted by Michael Borowitz, Don Giovanni is perhaps Mozart’s most famous opera. The story revolves around the legend of Don Juan, a lover who is known for his relentless energy and desire. Prospect.3, a regional extension of the international contemporary art biennial Prospect New Orleans, will host a screening of the series, Art 21: Art in the Twenty-First Century, Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Lagniappe Records. This is the first in a four-part series of free screenings. The remaining screenings will take place Nov. 19, Dec. 17 and Jan. 21. RSVP and get more information. 

Recent works by LSU School of Art faculty members will be on display through Nov. 21 at LSU’s Foster Gallery. The exhibit features new pieces from Dereck Ostrenko, Kristine Thompson, Scott Andresen and Han Yan Nam. A free reception will be held Friday, Nov. 21, 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Get more information.

Designers from Composite Effects will discuss their silicone mask wizardry in Friday’s Creative Louisiana talk at the Louisiana Art & Science Museum at 8:30 a.m. The free talk will give attendees a behind-the-scenes look at how the local company makes its scary and realistic masks.
