Arts picks: Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra celebrates the season

Hear seasonal sounds from the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra. The organization’s musicians perform two Holiday Brass shows this weekend. Up first is a performance Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Cathedral. An additional show is set for Sunday, Dec. 14, at 4:30 p.m. at Houmas House. Friday’s performance features holiday selections such as “Jingle Bells” and “We Three Kings,” as well as a pre-show set from the Red Stick Ringers and an appearance from the Baton Rouge High School Festival Singers. Get holiday shopping done early
The Baton Rouge Arts Council is bringing the goods downtown for the Arts Market Saturday, Dec. 13, 8 a.m.-noon at Fifth and Main streets. If raining, the market will be located at the Galvez Parking Garage. This is the second of three planned events this month. Another market will be held next Saturday, Dec. 20. The market includes everything from handbound books to handmade soaps to hand-painted silks. Get more information.
