Description: The trip around the world ends in Denmark with Benjamin Christensen’s Häxan (1922). Just in time to start the Halloween season, this dark documentary revolves around witchcraft and superstition.
The film is composed of haunting vignettes that illustrate the medieval perception of the occult. It demonstrates how perceived witches were treated during that time and explains those perceptions were a misunderstanding of mental illness. Far from a traditional narrative Häxan is a visual treat and interesting depiction of an ancient fascination. The additional appeal of this controversial and stylish horror film lies in its detailed scenery and superb photography.
