Description: “We are delighted to work with Chase Bank and Turner Industries to bring a new group of young artists into the Market this summer. Their tables will be complete in a few weeks and will replace the ones that have been loved for three years,” says Copper Alvarez, Executive Director of the Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance. “There will be many happy supporters who have been asking to purchase their favorite 2004 “Table Top.””
Persons interested in learning about the auction or bidding for a table can visit www.tabletopsbr.org or come to the downtown market at 5th and Main on Saturdays. The auction runs through 10 PM on September 10.
The “Table Top” project uses downtown Baton Rouge’s public marketplace as a backdrop for local student artists to create colorful, hand-painted table tops to reflect downtown’s unique culture and is overseen by a local art teacher who is on hand to help students bring their vision to life. The first “Table Top” project was in 2004 and is represented by the tables being auctioned. The proceeds of the auction will defray the costs of the current project and BREADA outreach programs.
