Description: Three shows have been added to this summer’s smash hit comedy Goin’ to Jackson at the Manship Theatre August 3 through August 5. Since tickets sold out quickly for the June run of the production, these additional performances were scheduled for the first available dates. Since its premiere in Baton Rouge in March of 1991, Jamie Wax’s one-man play with music has been performed throughout the country, garnering universal acclaim and critical praise.

Wax portrays five characters involved in a contest being held at the East Louisiana State Hospital to find a mental health spokesperson. As each character shares his or her story, side-splitting observations, powerful truths, and surprising moments of drama are revealed.

Rod Dreher of the Dallas Morning News calls the show “Uproarious! Laugh-packed! A highly entertaining call for compassion and tolerance.” Ray Blum of the Daily Advertiser says it’s “Theatrical genius!” And Laurie Smith Anderson of the Advocate dubs it “Drop-dead hilarious perfection!”

Last year’s record-setting stint at the Manship marked Goin’ to Jackson’s first run in Baton Rouge in over five years. New material and Wax’s trademark topical updates make this year’s production a must-see even for repeat viewers.

Performances are at 8:00 p.m. August 3 and 4, with a 2:00 p.m. Sunday matinee on August 5.

Tickets can be purchased by calling 344-0334, or by going online to www.manshiptheatre.org.
