Description: Kundalini is the potential form of prana or life force, lying dormant in our bodies. It is conceptualized as a coiled up serpent (literally, 'kundalini' in Sanskrit is "coiled up" or "coiling like a snake" - Sanskrit kund, "to burn"; kunda, "to coil or to spiral") lying at the base of our spine, which can spring awake when activated by spiritual disciplines. Kundalini yoga presented Carl Jung with a model for the developmental phases of higher consciousness, and he interpreted its symbols in terms of the process of individuation. In this workshop, you will be guided through the five elements of this scientific technology: Asana (seat/pose), Prana, (life force/breath), Mudra (hand position), Mantra (chant—aloud and silent), and Bandha (body lock), practiced simultaneously in individual exercises and kriyas, (a series of exercises for a specific purpose), that entail both repetitive movement and still poses for durations of time between 1-5 minutes each. Said to have immediate results, Kundalini Yoga and Meditation balances the central nervous, glandular and respiratory systems, and strengthens the skeletal and muscular systems promoting physical well being inside and out. This workshop will include a brief history, tuning in, opening mantra, breath work, basic spinal flex warm-up, exercises/kriyas, final relaxation, meditation with mantra, and words from the teachings of Yogi Bhajan, closing mantra.
