Description: This May brings the return of the Movies and Music on the Lawn Series to Baton Rouge Gallery. This season we will be showing feature length silent films which will be accompanied as always by a collective of improvising musicians who will respond musically to the film as it unfolds before the audience. May will feature the Red Shift Collective led by Cheney Hotard. The program will be held on Saturday, May 27th, at 8pm.

The first film of the season will be F.W. Murnau’s Faust. Perhaps most famous for his haunting Nosferatu, Murnau’s Faust was produced after Murnau achieved widespread fame, and the director was given carte blanche to produce what many consider to be his finest work. This classic tale of ambition and obsession is infused with a cinematic medieval landscape rich with images of religious fanaticism and pagan alchemy. The New York Times has called Faust, “A masterpiece. It inspires with its wealth of imagination, its shadows and soft lights, its astounding camera feats and its admirable portrayals.” (Baton Rouge Gallery)
