Night Hikes

When: Saturday, July 1, 2006, 8 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Where: BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp, 10503 North Oak Hill Parkway, Baton Rouge

Description: Registration begins July 1 at BREC's Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, 10503 N. Oak Hills Pkwy., for Swamp Night Hikes (Ages 7 and up), which will be held August 15 and 22. Swamp Night Hikes is an education hike led by the nature center staff down into Bluebonnet Swamp after dark! Participants will learn why the "Wise Ol' Owl" isn't so wise, why being "blind as a bat" is a good thing, how lightning bugs light up the night, and much more! Participants are encouraged to wear long pants, socks, and closed-toe shoes and to bring a flashlight and insect repellent. The time will depend on sunset time. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.
