Description: Authors Susan Jumonville and Lisa Bice Vermillion will be at the Iberville Museum in Plaquemine’s Historic District Tuesday, Aug. 29 from 2 PM to 7 PM to sign copies of their new book, Hurricane Katrina Brought Angels Too!
The book was written to help children deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Hurricane Katrina Brought Angels Too! is the story of two little boys, Edmond and Lakota, who survived the storm. It describes what happens to them after they leave their homes in New Orleans and take refuge in a shelter run by “earth angels.” The authors wrote the story to bring hope and healing to children of all ages.
Hurricane Katrina Brought Angels Too! is a fictional book but it is based on facts. The authors, Susan Jumonville and Lisa Bice Vermillion, ran a shelter in White Castle for six weeks after the storm.
They knew early on that there would be a need to write something to help the young survivors.
After writing their story, the authors enlisted White Castle librarian Marianne
Storch-Washington to illustrate it. They also worked with Baton Rouge resident Orhan McMillian of Dezins by Orhan on the graphic design and layout.
The book signing is sponsored by the Iberville Musem, which will offer free admission during this event. Refreshments will be served and copies of the book will be available for purchase. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go to hurricane relief efforts.
