Description: Harambeé, an annual celebration featuring LSU students showcasing African-American culture, will be held Thursday, September 7 at 7:00 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center.
Admission is free, and festivities include a Service Fair, MLK Dance Ensemble, the Ebony Renaissance Choir, the Unity Step Exhibition, and keynote speaker Omar Tyree.
Omar Tyree is a New York Times best-selling author and 2001 NAACP Image Award recipient for Outstanding Literature in Fiction. He has a degree in print journalism from Howard University and has sold more than 1.4 million books worldwide. Tyree has been published in the Washington Post, Essence, Upscale, The Delaware News Journal, Black Issues Book Review, Black Collegian and The Washington Times.
This year’s event is sponsored by Union Program Council, the African-American Cultural Center, and the Office of Multicultural Affairs.
