Spatula Diaries

A quarterback for the Super Bowl

January 16, 2008
By Maggie Heyn Richardson

Here's a wine for the upcoming NFL conference championships and Super Bowl Sunday (Feb 3). De Lisio’s aptly named 2005 Quarterback (McLaren Vale, Australia) is a red blend with lots of depth.

Here are its tasting notes:

"An intriguing blend of shiraz, grenache, merlot and cabernet sauvignon aged in mostly old French wood, the deep ruby/purple-tinged 2005 Quarterback reveals notions of new saddle leather, black currants, licorice and spice box. Full-bodied as well as elegant, restrained and Eurocentric in character, it should be consumed over the following 6-10 years."

At around $20, the wine's a good value for the whollop it packs. Enjoy.
