OK, readers. Give it up. Tell us your Thanksgiving specialty, your pride-and-joy plate, your signature holiday dish that's so good it makes guests weep. Post below so we can all get some ideas for this week's eat-a-thon.
One of my own is white chocolate bread pudding. Except it's not actually my own. The very generous Palace Café, owned by the Dickie Brennan, has always been happy to share its absolutely delicious recipe. They give it out at the restaurant, and while it's not currently posted on the Web site (other recipes are), you can also find a version through Epicurious that serves six. The original serves 12.
There is something about the Palace Café's WCBB that separates it from the dense herd of imitators. I wonder if it has anything to do with the 15 egg yolks, four whole eggs, six cups of whipping cream, two cups of milk, one cup of sugar, and pound-and-a-half of white chocolate. No, it's not industrial-sized. Just really rich. But somehow, it's not over the top. Must be that 24-inch loaf of stale French bread that keeps it humble.
I have prepared this often, and no matter how obnoxiously full the crowd is, they find room for it and clean their plates.
So whaddya got to share? The perfect brined turkey, a gourmet spin on green bean casserole, or a holiday cocktail to end all cocktails? Let's hear what you're serving.
And happy Thanksgiving.
