“I have a message for you from my 80-year-old mother,” said an acquaintance at dinner Saturday night. “She said ‘tell that lady that writes about restaurants she needs to say something about drinks. She never says anything about drinks.’”
Drinks. A little digging revealed she meant not the number of premium liquors or the depth of the wine cellar. She wanted to know about size. She wanted a map to the most heavy-handed bartenders, to the place that pours the most. It was the one factor she and her running buddies took into account when they dined out.
