Prom Date is one of the more exciting local groups to emerge in recent memory, embracing a tilted but wholly accessible form of pop splendor in their curious songs. They apply that same novelty to business practices, pulling off a successful kick-started microloan project to fun their new EP, Clock Out, songs of which will undoubtedly be charmingly sung and played on their Saturday appearance at Chelsea's Café, alongside Baton Rougean/New Yorker art pop impresario Chappo.
I am of the opinion that Tuscaloosa band (with some Baton Rouge members) Baak Gwaiis awesome; teenage jams from bent histories, guitars strung with hormone threads played by overgrown dreamers from a time when all the clocks have been discarded. I could go on. You should just go, on Thursday night at Chelsea's.
Tonight, Cory Branan brings his songs roughly-hewn from the corner joists of indie rock and folksy country to North Gate Tavern Jack Williams' music, in contrast, is carefully carved from old wood into the kinds of things you pick up and look at forever. His prodigious talent will be on display this Sunday at the Red Dragon. And speaking of the Red Dragon, they've had such a demand for the upcoming Guy Clark appearance that he's added a third night on Tuesday, Oct. 12. Tickets for all three shows (Oct. 12-14) are going fast at $100. Email Chris soon to get your Clark on.
