By Alex V. Cook
When veteran DJ John Peel was asked his favorite year for music, his answer was always "this one," and I tend to agree. There is nothing wrong with clinging to old favorites, to timeworn chestnuts, but this year, just like every year, there is a lot of music that just may stand the test of time. Out of all the new music I've heard this year, these are the ones I predict will hold your interest for longer than it takes to play them.
10. Ryan Adams – Easy Tiger (Lost Highway)
9. The National – Boxer (Merge)
8. Chicago Underground Trio – Chronicle (Delmark)
7. Bill Callahan – Woke on a Whaleheart (Drag City)
6. James Blood Ulmer – Bad Blood in the City: The Piety Street Sessions (Hyena)
5. Blitzen Trapper – Wild Mountain Nation (Lidkercow)
4. Of Montreal – Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer? (Polyvinyl)
3. Wilco – Sky Blue Sky (Nonesuch)
2. Common – Finding Forever (Geffen)
1. Bright Eyes – Cassadaga (Saddle Creek)
Happy holidays, and enjoy!
