This week Stormy Daniels, a Scotlandville Magnet grad and adult film actress, launched a listening tour to find out what your issues are. She’s considering a run for U.S. Senate against incumbent David Vitter, and is stopping in Louisiana cities to find the voice of the people.
“This isn’t the actual campaign, just a listening tour,” she told CNN yesterday after her first stop at a packed Roux House downtown. “I wanted to get their feedback so I could decide my platform. … I was disappointed that more people didn’t speak up and let me know what their issues are.”
I don’t recall the last time someone interested in running for office wanted my opinion, or yours. Usually the first step people take is to pay thousands of dollars to hire pollsters to find out what their odds are of winning the seat.
Daniels just had a few enthusiastic people inspire her to think about a run for U.S. Senate (see draftstormy.com). “This wasn’t my idea,” Daniels said. “I’m strictly doing it because I’ve been called to duty for nothing else.”
You might be telling yourself, “You’re joking, right, Rebecca? She’s a porn star! It will never happen—not with our family values. No way.”
Daniels for three years has served as a spokeswoman for the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, a nonprofit dedicated to eliminating online child porn, and she’s lobbied our lawmakers in Washington for tougher sentencing for predators.
You might be telling yourself, “But the woman has no political experience.”
Perhaps not. I don’t believe you need political experience to represent the people. Common sense, yes. She's got that. A willingness to hear your constituents, yes. She definitely has that. Daniels really seems to be getting off to the right start.
Most intelligent people, no matter their professional experience, should at one time in their life run for office, serve a term, then go back home. We as voters have become programmed to accept that a newbie first runs for city council, then steps up to state senate, then graduates to U.S. Congress or governor. (What would George Washington do?)
I’m neither endorsing nor opposing Stormy Daniels, but she’s caught my attention just by asking what’s on your mind in order to build her platform—should she run against Vitter. And that, dear readers, is refreshing.
What do you think of her listening tour?
This blog is dedicated to my mother and all the beautiful, hard-working mothers of the world who are always on a listening tour when it comes to their children. There is no love quite like a mother's love. Happy Mother's Day to you.

Rebecca,
Had she done this all on her own, I would tend to agree with you that this is refreshing. However, if you peel back the pretty outer facade of Ms. Daniels, I believe you'll find the disgusting figure of Larry Flynt. This is all just one big publicity stunt to further hurt Mr. Vitter's chances of re-election and it is taking Louisiana's already-bad political image down with it. What is even worse is the fact that she might be successful.
Isn't there anyone else that wants the job?

What's wrong with Larry Flynt? He's not manipulating my life, so why should you allow him to manipulate yours? It's good to see a woman taking ownership of her power and using it to her benefit as opposed to burying it in Canes chicken wings, beer, and LSU sports. Rock on "Stormy".... I’m not embarrassed to celebrate the empowerment of women!

jbeary asks, "What's wrong with Larry Flynt?"
Just ask a responsible parent with a daughter.
Now, let me ask you... What's wrong with Canes, etc.?
