Night Crawler

Those crazy Canadians

A little over two months ago I got a strange email. It was from a guy who apparently had found my blog (who knew people actually read this?) and thought I could be a good guide to going out in Baton Rouge. The only thing that was kind of strange about the request was that this dude, Chris, and his friend were from Canada. What!? A Canadian wanted my advice on where to go out in BR? Obviously I couldn’t turn this down. I’m supposed to be the nightlife expert (hardly, though) on the area, and I didn’t want to let him down.

So for the next few months we emailed back and forth; where I could send him, what he was looking for in a bar (music, scene, etc.), things like that. Through our exchanges I could see he kind of looked for the same things I do when it comes to bars. I went overboard on ideas of where he could go, mapping out his nights depending on whether he wanted the college or young professional environment.

Sadly, I couldn’t be there for his first two nights in town. But, on Friday he went to Jazz Fest and took in the New Orleans area. I even conferred with friends on spots to send him to in case he wanted to go out down there, which they did…till 6 a.m. Crazy Canadians! Once they called me and told me they were on their way back to BR, at like 7 a.m., to rest up and get some sleep for that night, I knew we’d get along just fine.

Well, after a mid-day nap, Chris and Co. were ready to party again. After starting out the night with a drink or two at Walk-On’s (they were impressed by the company we met there), we graciously accepted an invitation from the gentlemen of LSU’s Sig Ep fraternity to their private party at Tiger Bar.

I won’t go into details or anything because it was just like most other nights, except my Canadian friends bought me drinks all night. I will say that at the end of the night one of the guys shacked up so that’s fun, eh? That’s how Canadians roll. I guess I never thought anyone from Canada could really party. Robin Williams once said, “Canada is like a loft apartment over a really great party.” Well, that loft apartment can make just as much noise if given the chance. Thanks for coming guys. I hope you had fun.
