I checked out Happy’s on Saturday. Maybe you’ve heard of this little Irish joint? It’s a small (quaint may be another word used to describe it) little joint across from the Roux House. Apparently, the same guys who own the Roux House and Walk On’s own Happy’s. I really expected it to be the same as the Roux House before I got there. It was a little different, though. This place can best be described as a hole in the wall. But, I don’t mean that in the typical sense, meaning that it’s a run down place (i.e. the Flora-Bama). I only say that because it’s really, really small. It’s in the shape of a rectangle. There are booths all the way down the right side. The actual bar is pretty long down the left side. Not a ton of room in the middle to maneuver.
Drink prices were decent. $5 for a Jack and Coke. Beer was $2.75. Thing is…you don’t go there for a mixed drink. You go for a beer. It does not a selection comparable to The Chimes, but for such a small place it’s got much more to offer than just your same old domestics.
The median age? My friends and I decided that it’s somewhere between 23 and 26, so it’s the young, professional, crowd mostly. Guys were dressed down wearing anything, really. Girls, on the other hand, were dressier. I’ve explained the dress of girls in a place like this as sexy/dressy-casual. That’s what it was at Happy’s. They were trying to look sexy but trying not to seem too high maintenance.
What’s the best thing about Happy’s? It’s a pretty laid back scene. The music wasn’t too loud and you could hold a conversation with someone across the booth from you. Some might say the best thing is the way that the female workers dress. They dress kind of like Britney Spears did in her first video. That’s right…Catholic schoolgirl uniforms. This is normally a good thing, but let’s just say I wasn’t impressed.
